Jauretsi Saizarbitoria was born in Miami to Cuban parents who owned Centro Vasco, a Cuban institution for music and food dating back to Havana's stomping grounds where her grandfather founded it. She moved to New York to work for Paper Magazine throwing downtown finest parties. She later served as Entertainment Director for Details Magazine where she eventually jumped into the Editorial side. She later went on to serve as Entertainment Editor for Jane Magazine while contributing to a few other respected independents. After a decade of publishing, Jauretsi directed her first feature documentary, East of Havana (2006).
A lover of the Internet, Jauretsi is now creating and developing a New Media department for Starworks, a global creative casting agency located out of New York's Soho District. Starworks is known for casting high-end fashion campaigns, and for its editorial department which serves as Entertainment Editors booking covers for 10 magazines. Her comments on Entertainment culture have appeared on MTV, VH-1, E!, Style Channel, and Fox News. She currently resides in New York.
The principle aspect of my style
Luxury, Latina, Tough, Feminine
The quality that I desire in a shoe.
LOVE heels. I'm more a "pumps" girl. I like them to hug my feet safely. No
dental floss heels. Being a New Yorker, I must be able to walk walk walk...I
haven't got time for the pain.
The quality that I desire in a bag.
Subtle gold details are good. I like medium to large purses to go from day
to night. Strong. All about secret compartments or inside pockets -- for
cell phone, subway cards, keys, and um...other things. For evenings, I'm a
fan of a good clutch.
What inspires me most?
Music paints my life.
What I appreciate most about my closet.
The older I get, I appreciate the common thread and vision in all my
clothes/shoes/bags compared to my "younger years" closet where one is trying
to decide who they are. I appreciate a fluidity in the voice of all my
clothes, thereby a fluidity in me.
What is your dream purchase?
The fantasy would be a lifetime unlimited gift card at the Apple Store. I
can never own enough toys for DJ'ing, Designing, and New Media stuff.
What is your dream fashion purchase?
Going back in a time machine and purchasing specific dresses from my mothers
closet -- 70's and 80's Yves St Laurent and Fendi
Who’s style do you admire.
I'm a fan of Chloe Sevigny's confidence, fashion decisions, and chutzpah on
the carpet.
The city where you live.
New York
Your favorite color.
Red
The scent of perfume that I like.
Daphne Guinness limited edition for Comme des Garçons
My favorite authors.
I follow political journalists a little more -- so I'll say Anne Louis
Bardach... Vanity Fair writer with a specialty in Cuban Affairs.
My Favorite stores.
Opening Ceremony
Christian Louboutin
Lindsay Thornburg's Cloaks
Unis
Nike (Mercer St space for Nike ID's)
My hero’s in fashion.
Daphne Guinness -- an original spirit. a patron of the arts. fashion
connoisseur
My favorite music.
Rare Funk. Hip Hop Breaks. Also Cuban Music, the elegant Big Bang era.. i.e.
Beny More, Perez Prado, etc.
My heroes in real life.
Charlie Rose
My style heroines in history.
Carmen Jones
My Favorite Designer.
Alexander McQueen (RIP) -- true artist.
What I hate most of all in style.
I'm not into the concept of being obsessed with trends. I think it's best
when people pick their essence and style and wear whatever clothes fits
around that -- from designer to vintage. It's how you put yourself together
that matters, rather than being fixated on "the latest".
What is the city where you feel most at home.
It's a tie -- Cuba and New York.
My present state of mind.
Since today is Chinese New Years -- I'd say the 2010 Tiger (... cue in "Eye
of the Tiger")
My style mantra.
Dolly Parton once said, "Give a girl a good pair of shoes and she will
conquer the world"
